Antique Hedman F&E Check-Writer, Model D.

This piece is described by the Made in Chicago Museum as a "hi-tech defense weapon" as its creation came from a need to combat a serious issue of the day: check forgery. Prior to the invention of check writing machines, it was simple for swindlers and conmen to simply add an extra "y" to a paycheck prior to cashing so that a check for $8,000 became a check for $80,000.

This piece features adjustable number dials and a large lever to stamp information on the front of a check.

Exhibits moderate signs of wear and is in an unknown working condition.

We ship smaller objects with UPS and USPS. All shipments are fully insured and adhere to carrier packing guidelines. Shipping costs for smaller items being shipped within the continental United States are free up to $100. If a parcel shipment exceeds $100, the remaining costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. FREIGHT SHIPPING

We work with a number of freight carriers and private drivers, and are happy to assist buyers in finding suitable shipping arrangements for large items. Please reach out to us for quotes and more information about your shipping options. 

Please note that buyers are responsible for the shipping costs of all items that are too large to ship parcel. Moreover, all shipments are considered FOB (Free on Board), meaning the responsibility for the shipment passes to the buyer the moment the shipment leaves our dock. Any risk of loss or damage after this point is assumed solely by the buyer. In the event of damage or loss, we are happy to assist buyers in the claims process if we helped coordinate the shipment. However, we are not responsible for any damages, loss, or deductibles.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING

All shipments going outside of the continental United States will require consultation prior to shipping. Items will be crated and shipped by boat or by air at the buyer's expense. Please contact us regarding any questions you may have.
