This solid brass transit device would have been used by a surveyor at the turn of the century to provide accurate readings and surveys of land. This device would have rested on a wooden tripod and sometimes combined with a solar element. The device spins and operates freely. An inscription on the base reads "M. P. Ry. - M. of W. No. 4". There is a small concave indent on the threaded base that could be bent back out by the end user.

This transit device measures 11"W x 5"D x 8.5"H.
