c. 1910s; U.S. Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Industry - Washington, D.C.

Cardstock government announcement.
This sign was was produced by the USDA in the 1910s when the country was facing a meat crisis. Many different options were thrown around--including imported hippopotamus meat. However, a simpler and cheaper solution was to encourage the population to invest their resources in poultry and eggs. Lo and behold, the idea worked and to this day poultry is commonly the cheapest and most agreeable meat.

This sign features tips and instructions on raising your own brood, including some semi-graphic imagery of a rooster being "eliminated". It includes black and white photos with orange and black typography.

Exhibits minor signs of wear including creasing and small rips. Sign has been mounted on cardboard and bagged.
